How long does Botox last?

Botox is not a permanent treatment for wrinkles. After some time, the effects of the Botox treatment will wane and the preparation has to be re-administered to rejuvenate its effects.

Efficacy ranges of Botox

The doctor might ask you to return two weeks after the administration of the first set of Botox injections. During the next visit, the doctor will be able to determine if there are any muscles that were resistant to the first injections. The next set of injections will ensure maximum response to Botox therapy. After this, the patient might experience muscle weakness at the administration site.

After completing the first Botox treatment, you might have to come back to the doctor after three to six months. The doctor will advise you on when you have to come back for the next treatment to maximize the effects of the Botox preparation. The doctor might also advise you to return only by the time that you notice muscle movement at the injection site, which indicates that the effects of the drug is starting to disappear.

Factors affecting efficacy of Botox

If Botox is used on non-dynamic wrinkles, the effect of the treatment is less effective than when used on dynamic wrinkles. Botox treatment works best when used on the muscles of the forehead and near the eyes, on which dynamic wrinkles are formed. Wrinkles in these areas are formed due to repetitive muscle contractions. This is in contrast with the wrinkles formed due to aging and sun damage, which are less responsive to Botox therapy.
